- EMOMI has no accounts and no cloud. Your notes, reminders, places and photos live on your phone.
- When you dictate, the recording and what you said are sent to be transcribed and sorted. That is the only thing that leaves the phone by itself.
- The recording is deleted from your phone as soon as it has been transcribed.
- Your location is never sent — not to us, not to the AI. When you ask EMOMI to save a place, your phone works out where you are and keeps it there.
- Analytics and crash reports are off unless you turn them on, and the app is complete either way.
- What you delete is deleted, not hidden.
- There is no advertising in EMOMI, and nothing about you is sold or shared for advertising.
1. Who is responsible
EMOMI is made by Katerina Aleshchyk, an independent developer based in Batumi, Georgia. For anything in this policy — including a request to access or delete data — write to hello.emomi@gmail.com.
This policy covers the EMOMI mobile app for Android and iOS, and this website.
2. What EMOMI stores, and where
Everything you create in EMOMI is stored on your device only: your notes and their original transcript, checklists, reminders, spaces, saved places with their coordinates, photos you attach, and your settings. There is no account, no sign-in and no copy on our servers, because there is nothing on our side to keep it in.
One consequence is worth knowing: if your phone backs itself up (Google or Apple), EMOMI's data may be included in that backup, which is handled by them under their own terms, not ours.
3. What is sent when you dictate
Turning speech into a filed note is the one thing EMOMI cannot do on the device. When you hold the button and speak:
- The audio recording is uploaded to our processing service and passed to Mistral AI, which writes down what you said.
- The transcript is sent to Mistral AI to work out what the note is — a list, a reminder, a thought — and which of your spaces it belongs in.
- To make that possible, the request also carries the titles of your spaces and of your recent notes, and the contents of the notes the new one might be added to (a checklist's items, or a text note's text). The titles are also used to spell your own words the way you write them. Your device's time zone and current time are sent so that "tomorrow at eight" lands on the right hour.
The tidy-up features work the same way and send the same kinds of thing: when you merge spaces, split a space or sort the inbox, the titles of the spaces and notes involved — and short previews of the notes' text — are sent so the suggestion can be made.
What is never sent: your coordinates, your photos, and the audio once it has been transcribed. Nothing is sent while you are not using these features.
Our processing service is a small program on Cloudflare's network. It exists so the app does not have to carry the AI provider's key, it stores nothing, and its logs record only counts and error codes — never what you said.
Mistral AI is a French company, and the processing runs on infrastructure inside the European Economic Area — France, Sweden and Norway at the time of writing. (Mistral also offers a separate US endpoint; EMOMI does not use it.) Under its current terms it does not use data sent through its API to train its models, and deletes it after a short abuse-monitoring period (30 days at the time of writing).
Legal basis: this processing is necessary to provide the service you asked for — GDPR Art. 6(1)(b).
4. Permissions the app asks for
- Microphone — required to dictate. Nothing is recorded until you hold the button, and recording stops when you let go.
- Location — optional. Used only when a dictation asks to save a place ("save where I am"). Your phone reads the position and turns it into a street or place name using the address lookup built into your device, which may contact your device maker's service under their privacy policy. The result is stored in your note. The coordinates are never sent to us or to the AI — the AI is only told whether you asked to save a place at all.
- Camera and photo library — optional, and only when you attach a photo. Photos stay on the device and are never uploaded.
- Notifications — used to deliver your reminders. Reminders are scheduled by your phone's own alarm system; nothing is sent to a push server, and a reminder can fire with no internet at all.
5. Analytics and crash reports — only if you agree
EMOMI asks once, on the first launch, whether it may collect anonymous usage statistics and crash reports. Both answers give you the whole app — refusing costs you nothing. You can change your mind at any time in Settings, and switching it off stops the collection immediately, not at the next restart.
If you agree, two providers are used:
Usage statistics (PostHog)
Seven events are recorded: the app was opened, a recording was started, a note was created, a recording failed, a reminder was created, a space was opened, the timeline was opened. Each carries only technical details — the platform, the app version, the kind of note, whether it had a reminder, how long a recording lasted, why one failed, how many notes a space holds.
Never sent: the text of your notes, your reminders, your transcripts, your photos, your places — or the names of the spaces you create. A space name is reported only when it is one of the app's own suggested names (Shopping, Health, Work and so on); anything you or the AI named yourselves is reported as "custom".
A random identifier is generated and kept on your device so that repeat visits can be counted as one person rather than many. It is not linked to your name, your email or your device, and there is no account for it to be linked to.
Crash reports (Sentry)
When the app crashes or hits an error it can handle, a report is sent with a technical trace of where it happened and basic device and operating-system information. Fields that could identify a person are stripped before sending.
As with any internet request, your IP address is visible to these providers. It is not used to work out where you are: every event carries an instruction to skip the location lookup PostHog would otherwise run on it.
Legal basis: your consent — GDPR Art. 6(1)(a) — which you may withdraw at any time in Settings.
6. Who processes data for us
| Provider | What it does | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Cloudflare | Runs the small service that passes a dictation on. Stores nothing. | Global network |
| Mistral AI | Transcribes the recording and works out how to file the note. | European Union (France) |
| PostHog | Usage statistics. Only with your consent. | United States |
| Sentry | Crash reports. Only with your consent. | United States |
Where a provider is outside the European Economic Area, the transfer is covered by the European Commission's standard contractual clauses under our agreement with them.
7. How long anything is kept
- On your phone: until you delete it. Deleting a note removes its text, its checklist, its places, its photos and its reminders from the device for good — it is not hidden or flagged. The only delay is the few seconds the undo button is on screen.
- The recording: deleted from your phone as soon as it has been transcribed — including when the transcription failed.
- At Mistral AI: deleted after their abuse-monitoring period (30 days at the time of writing).
- Usage statistics and crash reports: kept by PostHog and Sentry under their retention policies for as long as you have consented. Withdrawing consent stops any further collection.
- Uninstalling EMOMI removes everything it stored on the device.
8. Children
EMOMI is not directed at children and is not intended for use by anyone under 16 (under 13 in the United States). We do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has used the app in a way that reached us, write to us and we will delete whatever we hold.
9. Your rights
If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom you have the right to access your data, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to its processing, and receive it in a portable form. You may also complain to your national data protection authority.
In practice, most of these you can exercise without us: your data is on your phone, where you can read it, change it and delete it directly, and we hold no copy to hand over. For anything else — including the data held by the providers above — write to hello.emomi@gmail.com and we will answer within 30 days.
If you are in California: we do not sell or share personal information, and EMOMI does no cross-context behavioural advertising. There is no advertising in the app at all.
10. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it, and a change that affects what leaves your phone will be announced in the app before it takes effect.
